About Caroline

Short bio

Caroline Cutuil is a private-practice midwife in Grenoble, France, specialising in non-medicated pain management, which she teaches at the University of Grenoble Alpes. She holds university diplomas in medical hypnotherapy and obstetric physiology, and attends physiological births in the Lotus room at Grenoble-Alpes University Hospital. She created Hoama, a free app for mental preparation for birth.

Long bio

Caroline Cutuil has been a midwife for fifteen years. After eight years at the Hôpital Couple-Enfant of Grenoble-Alpes University Hospital, where she helped create the Lotus room for physiological birth, she moved into private practice in Grenoble. She still attends physiological births at the hospital.

She holds three university diplomas, in medical hypnotherapy (2019), obstetric physiology (2023) and trauma-informed care (2024), and teaches non-medicated pain management at the University of Grenoble Alpes.

Her focus is mental preparation. Research and her work with patients have shown her that a woman's state of mind can change how she experiences birth and the weeks after it. As she told Le Dauphiné Libéré, "pain is not the pregnant woman's enemy; suffering and fear are." Her tools, medical conversational hypnosis, breathing and mental imagery, help women step out of their heads and back into their bodies, with or without an epidural.

Hoama grew out of a simple fact: she could not answer every request for birth preparation. She built it to make these methods available to every woman: a free app, with no ads and no account, for pregnancy, the day itself and the first weeks with a baby. Hoama complements medical care and antenatal classes; it does not replace them. Caroline works in French and English.
